Welcome to the H.D.M.A.C. Web Site

(Windows XP users please see the panel at the foot of the page.)

The Club which was formed in 1946 has over 140 members interested in designing, building and flying all types of Model Aircraft, ranging from ultra-lightweight Indoor models to Slope and Thermal Soaring, Electric Flight, I.C. Powered models, Helicopters and Ducted Fan and Gas Turbine models.

Membership is open to people of all ages from Juniors to Senior Citizens and all levels of ability from Beginners to the Highly Experienced Competition flyers who are always ready to assist the new and less experienced members.

The Club owns a Flying Field known as The Whams situated at Upper Cumberworth in open countryside with Planning Permission for the flying of all types of Model Aircraft at most times of the day, seven days a week, and situated more than ¾ kilometre from the nearest habitation.

In addition we enjoy  the sole use of an excellent Hill Side Slope Soaring Site at Cheesegate Nab, known locally as Tinker's Monument, by kind permission of the Land Owner. This soaring site may be used by members at any time.

The use of a large Site at Sledbrook Brow has recently been arranged for flying Thermal and Hand Launched Gliders and Silent Electric Powered Models.
This land is owned by Dunford Parish Community Association and may be used at any time when not in use by other organisations.

Members are also allowed limited use of the Playing Fields at Shelley High School for flying Thermal Soaring Gliders and Electric Powered models.

The Club is affiliated to the Marsden Moor Soaring Association permitting Members to fly Slope Soaring models on National Trust Property in this area and also on other recognised N.T. sites throughout the country by arrangement with the Local Model Clubs.

During the Winter months of October to April, meetings are held on the First Wednesday of each month at 7-45pm onwards in the
Turnbridge W.M.C. St. Andrews Road, Aspley, Huddersfield.

Talks, Film Shows, Computer Fly-ins and other events are arranged.

During the Winter period we also endeavour to arrange
one or two Indoor Flying evenings in a local School Sports Hall.

A Club Auxiliary Website, www.WhamsMAC.co.uk tries to give up-to-date news and photographs of Club events.
In addition we have a Members-only Internet Forum for discussions and last minute information.

A Club magazine, The Pegboard, is issued to all our members whenever possible containing news of events in the Club.

The Club is Affiliated to the British Model Flying Association and all active Club Members are covered by the BMFA Third Party Insurance Scheme.
